UPSC Journey of Anupama Anjali: AIR 386, CSE 2017

Every year UPSC conducts civil services examination for the recruitment of various civil services like Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS), and Indian Revenue Services (IRS) etc. The result of UPSC Civil Services Examination was declared in May. This year result came with some interesting stories of toppers.

Anudeep Durishetty an IRS Officer secured 1st rank & becomes the topper of CSE 2017. 2nd rank is secured by Anu Kumari who started her career after her marriage. Sachin Gupta has secured 3rd rank with his dedication & hard work.

Anupama Anjali has secured 386th rank in CSE 2017. So let’s begin with his journey.

About Anupama Anjali

She started preparing for CSE after completing his education. During her UPSC journey, she used to stay motivated during the time of his preparation. UPSC is a long journey, you will see many ups & downs in this journey. You will face very tough times also but the thing you should never lose hope. You have to stay motivated during the entire journey. She used to stay motivated by watching motivational videos.

According to her you should always stay motivated & always think positive in every situation. Another important thing is to acknowledge & deal with your emotions. Your morning will determine the timetable for the rest of the day. If you start your day with positive & right mindset then you will be able to perform better. So no matter how many things you have to do always start your day with a great mindset.

Writing Skills Strategy

Answer writing is a crucial factor in the CSE. A good answer can make your result better while a bad answer becomes the reason for your failure. Writing good answers does not come in a day, you have to practice for it.

Read newspaper to know how to build the perfect content for the answers.
Work on your writing speed also, as you only have 9 mins for an answer.
Spend 1 min to understand the demand of the answer & then phrase the answer in your mind & start writing it.
Always starts your answer with a good introduction. Do not write more than 2-3 lines in the introduction.
You can use data, the definition in the introduction to make your introduction more relevant.
The main body of the answer show includes pros & cons both.
Rather than using flowery language, you should use the simple language in the answer.
Always include paragraphs & bullet points in your answer. Do not write the entire answer in paragraphs.
In the main body of the answer, underline the main keywords & important things. This will make your answer presentation much better.
Always keep a balanced answer. Never go to any extremes and in no answer should you go against the government in a very critical way. Always go for constructive criticism. Understand that no govt is perfect and steps are being taken to ameliorate the situation.
Make your answer neat & clean, present your answer in a better way. Clearly express your thoughts.
In the end, your answer should include the conclusion.
You should include the solution to the problem in the conclusion.

Preparation Strategy

The proper strategy will help you to score much better in the exam. The things which you should consider during your preparation are given below.

Understand the Exam:

The first step should be to read the entire syllabus & understand the demand for the paper. If you will do that you will realize that all the stages of the exam require different preparation strategy. You should focus on basic concepts or facts & figures for the prelims. For the mains exam, you should focus on broad issues with pros & cons. And for the interview focus on forming opinions. You have to study the same material but different perspective every time.

Frame Questions:

After analyzing the question paper you will have an idea about the exam. Now what you have to do next is to read something new to frame your own questions. If you frame your own questions you will get to know where you stand in the exam.

Study Material:

It is important to choose relevant study material. UPSC is not about reading too many books it’s about reading the relevant books. So rather than reading 3-4 books for a single topic, stick to a single book for a specific topic make notes from it & focus on it. Make notes & update your notes regularly. Add the new things in the notes which you have learned.

Use your Knowledge

The UPSC has more generic questions. “So you have to use each question as an opportunity to demonstrate to the examiner that you have studied well.” She said. Always think & then answer the question. If you have a question on social inclusion analyses it from all aspects. Use important articles from polity, schemes from vision material, historical perspective, definition and quotes from ethics etc.

Answer Presentation

The presentation is the key to make your answer better & different from other answers. Regarding this, she said, “I have met many aspirants who probably knew more than me, but scored lesser in test series due to poor presentation.” So present your answer in a better way so that examiner cannot stop him to give you marks.

Question Understanding

Before writing the answer always read the question properly, think what the question is demanding for & frame the answer & then start writing the answer. Write about what has asked in the question rather than writing what you know in accordance with the question.
