- Recently India has granted citizen to 1lac refugees residing in Arunachal Pradesh.
- Who Are These People
- Chakmas are Buddhist and Hajongs are Hindus.
- These people migrated as refugee in India in 1960s when their area was submerged in Kaptai Dam Projects.
- Originally they were residing in Chittagong hills Tacts in East Pakistan.
- These people entered into India via Lushai Hills of mizoram and lator moved to AP.
- Why Citizenship is Given to Them
- As per SC order in 2015 these people have to given citizenship, which is being done by government despite the pressure from local AP people.
- Currently these people will not have land right , however they are provided with all basic facilities.
- Oppose from Local People.
- Since these have huge population which can alter the political map also some concerns are expressed by local tribal people whose lands would need to shared with them,however right no they are not enjoying the land rights.
- These people Will be issued Inner Line Permits, allowing them to travel & work but not possess land rights
