Every year UPSC conducts civil services examination for the recruitment of various civil services like Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS), and Indian Revenue Services (IRS) etc. The result of UPSC Civil Services Examination was declared in May. This year result came with some interesting stories of toppers.
Anudeep Durishetty an IRS Officer secured 1st rank & becomes the topper of CSE 2017. 2nd rank is secured by Anu Kumari who started her career after her marriage. Sachin Gupta has secured 3rd rank with his dedication & hard work.
Varjeet Walia has secured 21st rank in CSE 217. So let’s begin with her journey.

His Journey
Varjeet was born & raised in Jalandhar, Punjab. He always wanted to become an IAS officer to serve the country. His father Varinder Walia is currently working as the editor of Punjabi Jagran. His father always supported his child towards his dreams. His father always taught him to work hard & else everything will fall in its place.
Varjeet has secured 21st rank all over India in India’s one of the toughest & prestigious examination. He made his parents proud by his achievement. His father said, “He works very hard and it’s a proud moment for our family.” It was a dream come true for Varjeet as he was preparing for the civil services examination during his graduation days.
He had completed his schooling from a school in Jalandhar. He was a good student at the school. After completing his schooling he decided to prepare for engineering entrance exam for IIT. He pursued his passion & completed his engineering. He had done B. Tech in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi.

It was his dream to serve the country & he always wants to contribute towards the growth of the society that is why he decided to go for civil services rather than opting any private job. “The IAS badge gives you the power to contribute to society and work for growth, I want to make a difference in people’s lives,” he said. He is very eager & excited to make a difference in the society. He is the first member of his family who opted for civil services. He is the first member of his family who has cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination. He was inspired by his peer group to prepare for the exams.
Being the first member of his family to join civil services he did not have any guidance before the preparation of the exam. But he never joined any coaching classes for the preparation, he prepared on his own. He used to read all the NCERTs & joined all the online available sources like Insights, IAS baba etc. He used to read a newspaper daily & make notes of necessary points. He dedicated his time to his studies & never give up.

This was not his first attempt in the civil services examination. He was preparing for the CSE since his graduation days. He first appeared in the CSE 2015- 2016. At his first attempt, he secured 577th rank & got recruited in IRTS. He is currently training with the Indian Railway Traffic Services (IRTS).
His dream is to become an IAS officer so how could he settle for less. He decided to give more attempts to clear the exam with an excellent rank so that he got recruited for IAS. In 2017 he again appeared in the exam & this time he made his dream come true. He cleared the exam with an excellent rank i.e. 21st & made his parents proud. He will soon join the training for Indian Administrative Services (IAS).
