Abhilasha Abhinav: AIR 18, UPSC CSE 2017
Every year UPSC conducts civil services examination for the recruitment of various civil services like Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS), and Indian Revenue Services (IRS) etc. The result of UPSC Civil Services Examination was declared in May. This year result came with some interesting stories of toppers.
Anudeep Durishetty an IRS Officer secured 1st rank & becomes the topper of CSE 2017. 2nd rank is secured by Anu Kumari who started her career after her marriage. Sachin Gupta has secured 3rd rank with his dedication & hard work.
Abhilasha Abhinav secured 18th rank in CSE 217. So let’s begin with her journey.

Her Journey
Abhilasha belongs to Patna & secured 18th rank in the civil services examination in 2017. She is a positive person, she always likes to stay positive in every situation. She had a fighting spirit which helped to achieve her dreams. Her family used to stay at Haibpura, a small town in Sohsaray in Nalanda district, Patna. But currently, her family lives in Rajiv Nagar.
She comes from a well-educated family. She has always seen her father devoting his time towards the betterment of our country. Her father Bhola Nath Sarkar is a retired IPS Officer. His father gets promoted & became an IPS officer in 2000. And he got retired in 2013 from Deoghar, Jharkhand. Her mother Kalyani Sinha is a true motivation for her as she guided her during the preparation at every step.
On her success, her mother said “My daughter was working with the Syndicate Bank during demonetization in November 2016. She had to spend whole nights studying for examination while working long hours in the bank during the day. It was difficult but she managed to overcome the challenges with a sporting spirit.”

Educational Qualification
She had completed her initial schooling in Patna. She passed the 10th class in 2004 from Don Bosco Patna. In her 10th standard, she was the CBSE topper. After this, she changed her school & she completed her schooling from Delhi Public School at Bokaro. In her 12th standard, she has secured 84% marks. She opted science in her 11th standard as she was always interested in scientific things.
After completing her schooling she started preparing for the engineering entrance exams. She gave the engineering exam & she holds the 2nd place in CBSE’s Engineering Entrance Exam. She was a bright student since her school days. She had done her B. Tech (Electronics) from A S Patil College, Maharashtra.
This is not enough she was also good at the sports. She was the volleyball champion of her school. Later on, she also got interested in painting.
She has a message for all the parents which she shared during her interview. “I request parents not to pressure girls to marry. At the same time, girls should give confidence to parents by giving results” she said. She further added “Women aspirants should secure a place in the family and the society. Let the daughters work wonders. I expect girls to dream high.”

Professional Experience
After completing her engineering she got a job at IBM. She worked in IBM for two and half years. After some time she gave the PO entrance exam and she was working as a Probationary Officer in Syndicate Bank. She also said that she was working in the bank because of which she had no time for the coaching classes. Then she started preparing on her own. She did not take any coaching for the CSE preparation but she regularly followed various online sources available for the CSE preparation.

Attempts
This was not her 1st attempt at CSE she attempted the CSE twice before 2017. She first gave the civil services examination in 2014. But unfortunately, at that time, she was not able to clear the prelims. After her prelims attempt she joined Syndicate Bank as a Probationary Officer. Then she again prepared while doing the job & gave the civil services examination in 2016. In 2016 she has secured 308th rank & got recruited for the Indian Revenue Services (IRS).
She always wanted to become an IAS officer & she was not satisfied with her attempts that is why she decided to make more attempts. Then she gave the civil services examination in 2017 & become a national topper by securing 18th rank all over India.
She made her family proud of her achievement. She had done a lot of hard work to achieve the success. Regarding her journey to an IAS officer, she said “To become a top-notch Indian Administrative Service officer has never been easy, it’s difficult but not impossible. The difficult times must be faced with an athletically active spirit.” She also added “Employed people too crack the examination. Just a little bit of time management and hard work are required.”
